Lead Veterinary Surgeon

Hi, my name is Gabriela Pop and I am really excited to be part of this team! I graduated in 2017 in Bucharest, Romania - then I moved to the UK straight away and I’ve been working as a Veterinary Surgeon in Wales for 6 years. I like to create a nice relationship with my clients and I always strive to provide gold standard of care for my patients - I enjoy both equally: surgical and clinical work. I truly believe that our profession requires continuous education, which is why I have also started studying towards a Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery. In my spare time, I love spending time with my family, including my dog, but also reading, listening to music, travelling and cycling.

On the day of my appointment my wife and I travelled from Bridgend to Cowbridge for our English bulldog, Rose.
Our appointment was scheduled 11:15am - 11:30am.
Due to severe weather conditions, traffic conditions were heavy and we arrived late at the clinic for 11:20am.
By the time we were booked in the time was now 11:24am.
The vet we were booked in to see made no attempt to speak to us and completely blanked us.
The receptionist said we could re book for 12:30pm or wait to see the vet. We asked to wait but we were not advised that this would mean waiting until 12:30pm. There was one other couple and their dog at the practice at this time.
We watched from reception as our vet dealt with an elderly and very poorly dog. The vet was carrying the dog out of a room and banged the dog into the doorframe, to which the man and woman owners were visibly concerned but the vet said “IT’S OK” and kept walking without looking back, without any attempt to check the dog (which was struggling to hold up it’s body due to old age), as she went out of sight into another room. We then watched 5minutes later as the same vet carried the poorly dog back through reception, banging the dog’s legs into the doorframe a second time as she re entered the room with the owners. The vet was carrying the dog with one arm wrapped around the chest of the dog as its body hanged down, my wife and I were appalled at this level of care. We later found out the dog was 15years old.
A short time later at 12:10pm I asked if there was any idea of when we would see a vet as I just received a text message confirming a 12:30pm booking. At this point, the same vet came out into reception and began to rudely and abruptly tell me I was late so I can wait as she has other patients to see today, stating “YOU CAME AT 11:24 WHAT YOU WANT ME TO DO?”.
The vet’s demeanour I would describe as aggressive and belittling.
Having tried to explain we were late due to traffic and weather conditions the vet stated “I’M NOT DEALING WITH YOU” before going to the room at the rear of reception where I could then hear her verbally insulting me to other members of staff.
This same vet, I must add, saw our English Bulldog for skin issues previously and during this appointment we were also disappointed due to being rushed in and out of the appointment so that she could meet her 15minute time slot schedule. We have since returned for the same issues as the vet failed to provide adequate treatment the first time.
This vet was EXTREMELY rude, unprofessional and a discredit to the Medivet practice.
I then asked to see a different vet for my dog.
We were then seen at 12:20pm by a different vet. Absolute light and day between these vets.
This second vet was absolutely fantastic.
Genuine care, empathy and fantastic knowledge. The vet was extremely thorough and a pleasure to deal with. Thankfully this vet saved our experience at the practice.
If our experience was based on the first vet, our ratings would be in the minus numbers. Based on the second vet, our experience would be the highest number possible.
The first vet was Gabriela Pop - avoid at all costs if attending this surgery.
The second vet was Ziska David - absolutely fantastic vet and a real credit to Medivet.

We unfortunately had to attend the Cowbridge branch twice this week as our 12.5 year old cocker spaniel was very ill.
The diagnosis was not good and we have, against all our wishes, had to arrange to put our beautiful and amazing dog to sleep tomorrow.
Gabrielle was amazing, professional, sympathetic, caring, and courteous. She talked us through the options clearly and concicely.
The other staff were so understanding also.
The practice has the old "family practice" feel where the staff really do care for the animals.
We'd like to thank them all for their kindness and compassion during a difficult time for my wife and I.

Staff are always super friendly and caring for our pets. A pleasure to go there. Not so much for my dog who had 17 teeth out. I know he was well looked after though so I’m happy.
