Veterinary Nurse

I started my nursing career 6 years ago and recently qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse. I enjoy being a nurse seeing new things, assisting our amazing vets and enjoying cuddles with the patients. I have a very fluffy golden retriever, some rescue chicken and a corn snake who love to keep me on my toes outside of work!

Services we offer

With our 15-minute consultations, you have enough time to ask our expert vets any - and every - question you might have regarding your pet’s health and lifestyle.

Caring for all aspects of your pet’s oral health is easy with our excellent dental facilities.

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a simple, non-invasive test used to detect certain defects in your pet’s heart.

Using a tiny, flexible camera, we’re able to view internal body parts with little surgical intervention.

We know that sometimes it just isn’t possible for you or your pet to travel into one of our practices to receive care. At times like this, our capable and compassionate veterinary teams often offer at home visits.

A pet ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging technique used to view your pet's internal organs and identify potential issues.

We use x-ray machines to quickly diagnose issues that might affect your pet.

I first registered with The Laurels in 2022 on my return from Hong Kong. I did not want to return to my local vets, Foxgrove in Beckenham, which had already been taken over by Medivet. I had had a bad experience wth a Russian (?) vet there in 2016 who made it quite clear through her racist, dog-whistling insinuation (her conversation with embarrassed reception staff turned to refugees and asylum seekers as soon as I walked into the room. I have not forgotten it), that I was not welcome there.
The Laurels was at the time staffed by great, friendly staff who took time and trouble to get to know me and my dogs. They were extremely kind when I took my dogs to be put to sleep. In particular Nurse Sarah has always been extremely caring and kind.
Last week I took my dog for a 6-monthly check as included in the health plan. The decor had changed and looked like a faceless and sterile US doctor's office. Staff were obviously unhappy at being reprimanded for talking during their lunch break , and at a computer system that does not work, and a gloomy pall hung over the reception, as we learned that it was yet another employee's last day. Apparently she was the 9th member of staff to leave the practice this year.
We were called in by a (E European?) vet who did not smile, did not use either my name or my dog's and spent about a minute with us. She listened to my dog's heart but did not take his temperature. When I asked if he was all right and there was anything else she wanted to know she replied "No. I can see he looks all right." And that was the consultation. Peremptory, brisk, with no effort at friendliness or getting to know my dog. One treat was offered.
The vet emerged into the reception area after a couple of minutes and handed over my dog's wormers and that was that. My dog enjoys his vet visits but we both left feeling very flat.
On my return home I registered immediately with local, independent vet practice. My dog means the world to me and I will not have him treated like an object on a conveyor belt. This is clearly the Medivet effect. Everyone I know thinks the same about Medivet. I was willing to give them a chance but this was a sad and dismal experience for us. Medivet need to do much, much better.

When told by nurse that a biopsy would be a good idea , a quick procedure, she asked could a vet do while I was there. I thought good idea. Not possible. A shame as we are all busy, was prepared to wait .
This was yesterday , now have to take time off for this Tuesday .
Maybe could have been fitted in to save time ?
Also my dog shakes at the surgery so the less visits the better.

The automated system sends me repeated duplicate messages about our cats flea and worming, which isn't consistent with the actual dates. We were told Medivet are told to upsell dental services to make money. Our double appointment for cat check ups was very short and squeezed into one appointment time. Some staff are lovely and friendly, others are very abrupt.

I have been coming to what was “ The Laurels “ Practice since 1977. Throughout the years the care of my animals has been exemplary due in no small part to Mrs E. Torbett-Smyth. I sincerely hope that this kind of experience will continue in the future.

  • Your vet in Bromley

We are a veterinary practice located near the centre of Bromley. We have many clients from Bromley, Chislehurst, Keston, Chelsfield and Orpington. What distinguishes us from most other practices is that we have longer consultations, and we use this extra time to rigorously assess your pet and thoroughly discuss the tests and treatment options with you. Because of this relationship, we know our clients well, and over the years, come to think of them as friends. We have many clients who have been coming to us for over forty years.
