  • BOAS Surgery

BOAS, brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome, is a cause of upper airway obstruction in brachycephalic breeds. The most commonly affected dogs tend to be the smaller short-nose breeds, such as Pugs, French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs and Boston Terriers. Signs to look out for include exercise intolerance, gagging and loud noisy breathing. BOAS surgery is routinely performed at Medivet Kensington by our surgeon, VK and aided by nurses who have undertaken additional training in anaesthesia.

Book an appointment with any of the vets to discuss whether your dog would benefit from the procedure.

  • Laparoscopic neutering

Laparoscopic neutering (key hole spay) involves making 2 small incisions to remove the ovaries. There are many studies showing significantly improved recovery times for dogs, with up to 65% less post operative pain. Peter and Tom routinely perform this surgery on Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays at the Kensington practice.

  • Nutrition Consult

At Medivet Kensington we offer full nutritional assessments for cats and dogs, all
ages and conditions. These clinics are run by one of our registered nurses who
completed her nursing certificate in small animal nutrition in 2023.
The initial consultation will last about 30 minutes. Follow up appointments are booked every 2-4 weeks depending on the case until the patient is stable or ideal weight is reached.

-- Absolute lifesavers - I wish I could give more stars -- After my dog had a terrible accident, I rushed her here. From the moment we arrived, the team responded with urgency and compassion. Although my dog appeared stable, the vet identified internal bleeding and recommended immediate surgery. They removed her spleen, stitched her liver, and saved her life within hours. The vet was honest about the risks but reassuring, which meant everything on one of the scariest days of my life. Thanks to their skill & care, my dog made it through! They were just as thoughtful financially - provided a clear estimate before the surgery and offered options to help make things managable. During my dog's two-night recovery at the clinic, they continuously kept me updated, let me visit, and even sent the sweetest Easter photos! Because of this incredible team, I still have my baby - and I'll forever be grateful! Special thanks to Dr. Clarisse, Kate, and Klaudia xx

Had to visit for the first time for an emergency appointment. The vet was phenomenal and so were all the staff! I felt very supported and comforted, and little Lachlann stepped out (was carried out) with a lot more pep in his step. Thank you!

I visited Medivet Kensington recently with five kittens, born to a stray cat we took in just 20 minutes before she gave birth on the street in Central London. It was their first vaccination, and while the woman we saw—whose name I believe was Nora—was professional, she unfortunately came across as a bit judgmental considering we spent over £700 for vaccinations for 8-week old kittens we took on unexpectedly. We have done our best to take care of them when the shelter we called recommended we keep them at home rather than surrendering if we could manage, which we have so far. A more serious concern arose with the mother cat, who is with the kittens and lives and belongs to our friend, a first-time cat owner. She was worried the cat might have eaten chocolate as the cat was displaying strange symptoms such as rolling around and looking uncomfortable and, unsure of what was happening, booked an emergency appointment. Being autistic and new to pet ownership, she was understandably anxious and seeking reassurance. Nora, however, responded in a very dismissive way - asking questions like “did she eat a whole bar?” in a tone that felt more critical than helpful. After briefly checking the cat, she offered two treatment options: an overnight stay costing approximately £1,000 or charcoal. My friend, overwhelmed and worried, chose the charcoal, but it was neither administered at the time nor were clear instructions given on how to use it and was instead given to her and told the instructions were on the box, and left, leaving the £180 bill. What was most concerning is that the vet missed a very obvious explanation for the symptoms: the cat was in heat. I had gone home for dinner after spending the day with the kittens post-vaccination, but when we arrived shortly after my friend called in distress, we immediately noticed the signs - tail and butt lifted, spraying, general restlessness, etc. These are classic signs of a cat in heat, and any vet should have picked up on this. We had not previously considered this as research had stated that it would likely be not quite so soon after birth, but it has happened. Sharing this information would have spared my friend a great deal of stress and an unnecessary expense of treatment, especially as she had simply accused herself of wrongdoing as to her, the cat looked in pain, when instead it was simply discomfort. After we arrived, my friend told us the symptoms we were seeing were what had been happening prior, and she knew she had not left chocolate lying around after all (and the vet mentioned cats do not usually go for it), she had just wanted answers for the behaviour and had assumed the worst. Unfortunately, the whole experience left us wishing that the Vet had taken the time to be compassionate, rather than judgemental, something they can happily do behind staff doors, but teeters on unprofessional and unkind when done in the face of a worried pet parent. Every owner has a unique story, and some understanding should be considered, no matter how many clients have been seen that day. Especially for new pet owners seeking guidance, the lack of empathy and dismissive tone were deeply disappointing. Otherwise, the practice receptionists are very nice, and another vet, Emma, is incredibly helpful and understanding. Perhaps the vet we saw was exhausted, but she has ruined any relationship my friend has with the practice, and now I will have to take the animals in the future as she does not wish to be unfairly judged again.

I came to Medivet on Gloucester Road under traumatic circumstances; it was a Sunday morning and my 2 year old miniature poodle Yogi had just been badly attacked by a large ‘bully’ breed dog. We’d just moved to the area, so I had to do an online search for the nearest vet that was open - while holding my badly injured dog in my arms.I’m so glad that search led us to Medivet. Yogi was kept in for three days, and throughout that time I was kept informed of what tests and treatment he was getting, and why. The day he was discharged vet Vera Vagiona sent me a comprehensive email detailing all the diagnostic investigations and treatment carried out, as well as a really clear explanation of how Yogi’s injuries might affect him. Yogi is now fully recovered, thanks to the excellent treatment and real care he received at Medivet, not only from the vets and veterinary nurses, but also from the truly kind and empathic front desk staff. The attack was a pretty traumatic experience for me too, and I’m very grateful for the kindness and reassurance the staff extended to me. I feel that Yogi gave the best review of all when we returned after 10 days to have his stitches removed. He was delighted to see everyone, giving an ecstatic greeting to each member of staff, and when the vet came to take him downstairs he trotted jauntily off with her, tail wagging. And it was still wagging when he came back! Thanks Medivet Gloucester Road, I couldn’t have asked for better treatment and care for Yogi, you are all wonderful.
